Denny Colt (Gabriel Macht) is een man die zijn eigen dood in scène zet zodat hij als een schim
de misdaad kan bestrijden in Central City. Zijn aartsvijand The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson)
wil de stad verwoesten. The Spirit gaat op pad om The Octopus te vermoorden, maar wordt
hierbij gehinderd en verleidt door een hoop bloedmooie vrouwen, waaronder Sand Saref
(Eva Mendes), een juwelendief.
