The Restoration Man: Series 4
Architect George Clarke returns for another series as he travels up and down the country to new locations, new restorations and amazing stories of people who have gone to extraordinary lengths to build their dreams homes by restoring and rejuvenating some of Britain's most cherished but forgotten buildings.

1) Shropshire Farmhouse
Russell Edwards and Nadia Smith have put everything into turning a derelict farmhouse in the Shropshire countryside into a family home. They are determined to restore the 18th-century building to its former glory, but their high standards soon cost them dearly, and after two winters in a caravan, illness and exhaustion threaten to overwhelm the pair. George helps with the design and hard graft and investigates the history behind this mysterious half-timber-framed building.

2) Tudor Revival School
Jim and Bee Goody regard a derelict school in Great Braxted, Essex, as their golden ticket to escaping the suburbs and creating their dream home in the country. Unable to sell their own house, they have taken the gamble of buying the Victorian property on a bridging loan with Jim leaving his regular job to work on the project. As George Clarke discovers, the pair initially regarded some of the listed features of the school as an impediment to creating the home they wanted, but have gradually fallen in love with the building's quirks and its unique history.

3) HMS Owl
Londoners Justin Hooper and Charlotte Seddon have a dramatic vision for a derelict airfield control tower in the Highlands. But simply restoring the 700 window panes to their original modernist look swallows 40 per cent of their budget, and the difficulties of project-managing the build from 600 miles away make it increasingly hard for the couple to make the final leap from their city home. George Clarke helps them realise their plans for this 4,000 sq ft military space, and meets the people who were willing to sacrifice everything as the tower played a crucial role during the Second World War.

4) Pannal Water Tower
After living in a bungalow for 25 years, Yorkshire couple Carol and Majid Nadry embark on an ambitious midlife adventure - buying a water tower to turn into a five-storey home. As they battle with the huge rusting tank on top of the building, they encounter devastating legal problems, and unexpected costs hit their budget. However, the pair refuse to give up on their mission to create a one-off design, and architect George Clarke encourages them to see their daunting challenge through, while detailing the seismic changes in architectural history that this structure's humble appearance conceals.

5) Longhurst Lodge Revisit
When Nik Huddy and Vanessa Ford Robbins stumbled upon an overgrown Victorian gate lodge in Surrey, they saw an opportunity to express their love of arts and crafts by restoring the tiny building to its former glory. They lived onsite in a caravan through two freezing winters, and even when they finally moved in, the house was too small to install a proper bathroom. Architect George Clarke catches up with the couple one year on, now that they've added a handy extension to the property.

6) Welsh School Revisit
Recession-hit builders Ian and Jayne Hall Edwards bought a derelict Victorian school in Pencader, Carmarthenshire, with the aim of turning it into both a place of business and a home. However, they failed to win a grant to help finance the project, and were forced to battle through harsh winters while living in a caravan on site. Architect George Clarke returns one year on, to find they have not only largely reconstructed the building from scratch, but also transformed it into a modern family home with impressive energy-efficiency levels.
