Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood), is een knorrige oorlogsveteraan en oud fabriekswerker die net zijn vrouw heeft verloren
en geen goed contact heeft met zijn zoons. Ook zijn buren ziet hij amper. Ooit was het nog een goede buurt, maar nu
wonen er voornamelijk Aziatische Hmong-immigranten om hem heen. En daar moet Walt helemaal niks van hebben. Door zijn
ervaringen in de oorlog in Korea heeft hij een hekel aan Aziaten, maar eigenlijk aan zo'n beetje alle culturen. Hij wil
het liefst met rust gelaten worden, door iedereen. Totdat op een nacht zijn prachtige auto, een Gran Torino, bijna wordt
gestolen. De dader is zijn buurjongetje die dit deed onder druk van een lokale bende. Dit zet een serie gebeurtenissen
in gang die het leven van Walt én zijn buren voorgoed zal veranderen...

around him. Kowalski is a grumpy, tough-minded, unhappy an old man, who can't get along with either his kids or his
neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1972 Gran Torino he keeps in mint condition. When his
neighbor Thao, a young Hmong teenager under pressure from his gang member cousin, tries to steal his Gran Torino,
Kowalski sets out to reform the youth. Drawn against his will into the life of Thao's family, Kowalski is soon taking
steps to protect them from the gangs that infest their neighborhood.
