Again, I apologize for the delay in getting these last two packs out, but I hope that there are still folks out there that are looking forward to these goodies. My friggin internet connection, even though it is advertised as unlimited usage does have a limit placed upon it when you join their fabled 1% of high-end users. Anyhow, I am uploading this pack in july as planned, just wish I coulda done it a little earlier in the month. Anyway, if you've got any of the albums that are not included in this pack (within the time span of 1984 to 1988), please send me a pm. For more info on such albums, look at the bottom of this post for a detailed list. Just like the first 3 packs, this fourth one has all the same specifications, and all the stress, time and effort has been put into it. If you enjoy this stuff, please leave me some thanks, but most of all..share them..share them freely; play some chet at your next get-together with friends and family, start-up a convo about jazz, followed with some music with a co-worker...buy a jazz cd for your neighbor, your stalker your mechanic...heck give out a torrent invite to your boss if you have to...get as many people as possible loving these wonderful jazz classics, and maybe..just maybe you'll get to go to heaven.....For the Love Of the music!

Download, SHARE and Enjoy! :D

Peace!

All the files here range from standard to blazing high quality mp3 files. As Always, all the 320vbr albums were converted via dbPowerAMP from LOSSLESS sources using the Alt Preset Extreme Setting. The sources of the albums include bittorrent, emule+, soulseek, DC++ (and my personal collection) and have all been checked and double-checked for consistency (i.e. they are all whole albums as opposed to the kazaa gathering method), and none seem to be lossy to lossy transcodes. All Folders have been labelled with as much info as possible, and the screenshot shows them off, so you know exactly what you're downloading when you decide to. Lastly, each pack (1 more to go) will be roughly about the same size as this one, and I've set them to 4 gigs to allow for easy burn to 1 DVD or 6 CDS. Props for this idea should go to staremi of the demonoid boards

[1984] - Chet Baker - Sentimental Walk In Paris (2002) [192cbr]

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/212BSSWT0BL._AA130_.jpg

Chet Baker's Sentimental Walk in Paris is a collection of his Vladimir Cosma covers from the '80s. Although Baker was past his prime and had descended into heavy drugs, he was still an ace trumpeter. His gorgeous sound overcomes the arrangements (which are not bad, but tend to get cheesy at times), and fit perfectly into Cosma's mood music. In fact, Cosma produced the album and acted as Baker's handler during the recording sessions. The pairing is an inspired one, although Cosma's jazz influences have always been apparent. The orchestration that Cosma used for filling out Baker's sound was wonderfully appropriate, bringing to mind the amazing soundtracks of Henry Mancini or Elmer Bernstein. Fans of either artist should not be disappointed, and even curious listeners looking for a good orchestrated jazz album should give this a listen. Baker may have been at the end of his career, but his unique style was still quite strong.

[1984] - Chet Baker Quintet - Blues For A Reason [192cbr]

http://chetbakertribute.com/cb_coverart/bluesforareason.jpg

The meeting of these two greats produces some magical moments. Baker and Marsh burn through Well Spoken with some smoking-hot solos. Chet then plays one of the prettiest versions of If You Could See Me Now that he has ever laid down. We Know It's Love, Looking Good Tonight and the title piece are three fun little swinging tunes penned by Chet.

[1985] - Ake Johansson Trio With Chet Baker & Toots Thielemans - Chet & Toots [256vbr]

http://chetbakertribute.com/cb_coverart/toots.jpg

Chet's only teaming on record with the definitive jazz harmonica player. Just as he does on 1983's Live in Sweden, ke Johansson complements Chet's lyrical style with his own Bill Evans - like solos. The CD opens with 2 tunes revisited from the 1983 recording, Beatrice and Lament. Chet sits out on When I Fall in Love. No matter, it turns out to be Toots' finest moment on the record. Chet's solo on Broken Wing is as good as any the versions recorded during that great period of late 1978. For Minors Only is a little clumsy at times (for some reason that tune just doesn't work for jazz harmonica). The set closes with a long, quiet My Foolish Heart marred slightly by muffled vocals, but saved by sad, sweet solos by Baker and Johansson.

[1985] - Chet Baker - Live In Bologna [320vbr]

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/5120NEFXMHL._AA240_.jpg

The perfect setting for Chet Baker in his latest years was in a quiet trio with guitar and bass. This 1992 CD brought out a previously unreleased, but well-recorded live set in which Baker is joined by guitarist Philip Catherine and bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse. Although there are a couple of typically indifferent vocals by Baker, his trumpet playing is in fine form throughout the date, which includes George Shearing's "Conception," "Tune Up" and the umpteenth remake of "My Funny Valentine."

[1985] - Chet Baker - Misty [320vbr]

http://www.jazzloft.com/covers/tdm3.jpg

In January 1985, Chet performed a gig in Dallas, Texas with Fred Raulston's talented band featuring Martha Burke on vocals. The band also met the next day in the studio to record Would You Believe? The live date was issued on three LP's/CD's: My Foolish Heart, Misty, and Time After Time.
Misty offers some great moments as well as some forgettable ones. He mumbles through When I Fall in Love and stumbles through Mr. B. However in a swinging take on Misty (featuring a lively vocal by Burks) he starts slow, but is blowing loud and high by the end. I Love My Wife is credited as a Baker composition, and is a sweet little tune, even though Ralston and Darling get most of the solos.

[1985] - Chet Baker - Strollin' [320vbr]

http://www.enjarecords.com/images/enj5005.gif

Personnel: Chet Baker (vocals, trumpet); Phillip Catherine (guitar); Jean-Louis Rasinfosse (bass).
Recorded at the 7th Jazz Festival, Muenster, West Germany in June 1985.
On this 1985 concert recording, charismatic trumpet player/vocalist Chet Baker performs with guitarist Philip Catherine and bassist Jean Louis Rassinfosse. Baker performs such trademark tunes as Cole Porter's "Love for Sale" and Gershwin's "But Not For Me," but the settings are unique. On the former, Baker employs a distinctly funky approach. It's rare to hear Baker soloing over what amounts to a one-chord jam. Rassinfosse develops an ostinato purposely devoid of harmonic progression. Seizing the moment, Catherine and Baker develop their respective solos with great confidence and poise.
At times, Catherine's sound is more akin to rock than it is to jazz. He goes so far as to use slight distortion on "Sad Walk" and "Love for Sale." Rassinfosse performs on what sounds like an electric, upright bass sans a wooden body. This musical approach is incongruent with the other Baker settings. A pioneer of the so-called West Coast cool sound, Baker seems to be in stylistic opposition to music that hints at "rock" in any way. Despite such disparities, this trio demonstrates great musical empathy and confluence.

Mediocre date with Melillo's Orchestra in Italy. The arrangements are odd and they don't really compliment Chet's playing. Chet sings a nice version of My Foolish Heart, however.

To me, this session is similar to the excellent Steeplechase recordings from October 1979. Here we have another intimate setting (just guitar and bass) and Chet is in excellent shape. Philip Catherine's playing is always fresh and exciting.

Chet's playing is crisp and clean. He plays long solos that always present something new. This is perhaps one of Chet's finest sessions in his 35 years of recording.

The material that Chet made for Criss Cross, SteepleChase and Timeless is some of his best, but unfortunately it is very hard to find these recording today

[1985] - The Legacy Vol. III - Remember You [160cbr]

http://www.enjarecords.com/images/enj9337.jpg

This disc documents a ten-year-long musical friendship between Chet Baker (1929-1988), the legendary American trumpet player, and Wolfgang Lackerschmid, a German vibraphone player and composer. They met for the first time in 1978 and went into the studio to do a duet recording the following year. Another studio date followed in late 1979, this time with a quintet including Larry Coryell, Buster Williams and Tony Williams. Over the years, Chet and Lacky were touring all over Europe and recorded again in 1987, only a few months before Chet's death.

Musically, it was a very special cooperation. Chet was fond of Lacky's compositions such as Five Years Ago, Balzwaltz or Why Shouldn't You Cry, and loved to perform them in concert. "Chet was the best interpreter of my tunes," Lacky remembers, "and even asked me for new material. Without needing any instructions, he always played my tunes as I wanted them to be played. I had often listened to his records before, so maybe I had his sound in mind when I wrote these tunes." Not only the tunes but also the original combination of trumpet and vibes helped to create a context for Chet's trumpet that will be new and surprising for many of his fans. Needless to say, Chet marvellously answered the challenge and had some of his most brilliant moments when recording with Lacky.

This CD ends with Chet's Ballad, a vocal version of Why Shouldn't You Cry recorded five years after Chet's death by a New York all-star band. It features alto sax player Lee Konitz and singer Lillias White in a moving homage to Chet Baker's musical spirit.

This is the third volume of the successful THE CHET BAKER LEGACY co-produced by CCB (Chet & Carol Baker Productions) and ENJA RECORDS.

Chet Baker ploughs a uniquely individual furrow in the field of jazz. Recorded in June 1986, Chet is joined by Van Morrison and Elvis Costello. This historic performance -- just two years before his demise -- was also Chet's last recorded one. In the small, comfortable British club, Baker is emotional and stunning, turning in a great performance of ten tracks. In addition, the video includes a rare interview with the star, in which he confesses to a very long addiction to drugs and discusses the history of his career. Includes the songs "Send in the Clowns," "Love for Sale," "The Very Thought of You," and more.

[1986] - Chet Baker - When Sunny Gets Blue [320vbr]

http://suprfile.com/src/1/6cadz8d/f2_1_b.jpg

When Sunny Got Blue - Chet got stoned.

Recorded February 23, 1986 - the last recording Baker made for SteepleChase before his death. Though received harshly by most critics the album is really a testament to the natural, flawed essence of talent : whether or not you appreciate it will depend on whether you believe the glass is half empty or half full. Usually, Baker's SteepleChase recordings are excellent, and I would recommend any of them except for this one. Here, he's playing with an unfamiliar band, but that's no excuse. Chet struggles on almost every tune, only the title track came out listenable.

[1987] - Billy Higgins-Charlie Haden-Chet Baker-Enrico Pieranunzi - Silence [320cbr]

http://www.oi.co.kr/new_admin/cd_pictures_new/03003770021.jpg

Personnel: Charlie Haden (bass); Chet Baker (trumpet); Enrico Pieranunzi (piano); Billy Higgins (drums).
Recorded at CMC Studio, Rome, Italy on November 11 & 12, 1987. Includes liner notes by Gary Giddins.
SILENCE features bassist Charlie Haden joined by Chet Baker, drummer Billy Higgins, and pianist Enrico Pieranunzi. It was recorded just six months before Baker's death. His sad lyricism is a stirring presence throughout the half-dozen tunes. Haden's "Silence" is like a mournful prayer with Baker's trumpet at the fore. Elsewhere, Baker exhibits full commitment, even on pieces that had been in his repertoire for 35 years at that point ("My Funny Valentine" and "Round About Midnight"). Italian pianist Pieranunzi plays in a style that embraces jazz, but draws from classical music (not unlike Bill Evans). Higgins has worked with Haden off and on since their time together with Ornette Coleman in the '50s. He brings a modernist's sensibility to his playing, along with a light and elegant touch that perfectly suits the quiet nature of this set. All in all, this is a masterful union, one that's perfectly and cleanly documented.

[1987] - Chet Baker - Sings And Plays From The Film Let's Get Lost [320vbr]

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/03/23/27c2224128a014fde9ac7010._AA130_.L.jpg

This album consists of the tracks Baker recorded especially for the Bruce Weber documentary `Let's get lost' - a retrospective of the life of the great horn player and vocalist. Baker's life was troubled - his drug addiction is legendary, and ultimately caused his death, directly or indirectly, as the individual chooses to view the events. His musical genius is indisputable - and these recordings are an incredible witness to that. The group accompanying Baker (featured here on trumpet & vocals) is a small one: Frank Strazzeri (piano), John Leftwich (bass), Ralph Penland (drums & percussion) and Nicola Stilo (guitar & flute). There are standards a-plenty here - songs that will be loved forever by the likes of Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, Johnny Burke & Jimmy VanHuesen, Antonio Carlos Jobim - as well as a tune by none other than Elvis Costello, just to show that great ones are still being written.
Baker was always a fine vocalist - and no one else sounds quite like him. There are times when it sounds like he's hanging onto the notes by his fingernails - but there's never a moment (here, or in anything I've ever heard him sing) when he sounds detached from the song. Every one of his performances is filtered through his heart and soul - and that's a beautiful thing to experience. Without taking such extreme liberties that the melody is unrecognizable (as many who style themselves `jazz vocalists' seem to do), Baker lovingly caresses each tune and makes it his own. The sheer intimacy that Baker is able to express in the love songs makes the listener feel like he or she is eavesdropping on a conversation from the next table in a dimly lit, wee-hours jazz club - and it's a privilege to share such raw, honest feelings.

The players are perfect in their support here - Baker's voice is the center of every arrangement, but with an instrument as magnetic as the singer possesses, how could it be otherwise? His trumpet playing is as fine as ever, even at this late stage of the game. It's sometimes sad to listen - there's pain so clearly and eloquently expressed in every song - but there's an unnamable joy present as well, for what a gift it is that he shares with us!

Weber's documentary is hard to watch as well - Baker's life was a hard one, filled with pain and sorrow, for which he turned to heroin. It's heartbreaking to witness someone hurting so much - but his music is without question of the timeless variety, and something to be treasured. ~ Larry L. Looney

[1987] - Chet Baker - The Legacy Vol. 1 [320vbr]

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000005CBI.01._AA130_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

This is very similar to Chet's last recording with the NDR Big Band in April 1988. Actually, it's a little better because there is no orchestra to get in the way. Many of the tunes are the same, and the arrangements are almost identical. Just as he did 5 months later, Chet seems inspired by the big band, and he gives it his all.

This recording is another testament to just how talented Chet Baker was. His playing works well in this 18 piece band in a concert hall, just as it does with an intimate trio in a small club. He was not afraid the try different settings, different types of music. I also like to think that Chet enjoyed his concerts with the big band, because it took him back to his days as a child listening to Harry James, his first musical influence.

Probably the best of the three sessions with Chet and the German vibraphonist. The material is fresh, and it suits Chet well. The tunes are breezy and laid-back, and Baker is in fine form. [1987] - Chet Baker Quartet - Live in Tokyo [160vbr]

http://cover6.cduniverse.com/MuzeAudioArt/050/59452.jpg

Personnel: Chet Baker (vocals, trumpet); Harold Danko (piano); Hein Van Der Geyn (bass); John Engels (drums). Recorded live at Hitomi-Kinen-Kodo, Tokyo, Japan on June 14, 1987. Includes liner notes by Francis Davis. While Chet Baker was not known as an extraordinary technician (his best solos were memorable for their lyricism and melodic organization, not their speed or use of high range on the trumpet), he was a consummate improviser, capable of besting many of his contemporaries. This said, it's extraordinary how spry and technically proficient Baker's playing is here. Only one year before his death, the trumpeter plays with great confidence and poise. On tunes such as "For Minors Only," "Four," and "Seven Steps to Heaven," Baker proves that he--despite his drug addiction--can still play uptempo tunes as well as any of his generation. He also performs haunting versions of "My Funny Valentine" and the Elvis Costello ballad, "Almost Blue"; both compositions became trademarks for Baker, representing respectively the beginning and the end of his career. Most of all, though, his playing on this double CD makes this Chet Baker's best recorded live performance of the '80s.

Chet makes the best of a "smooth jazz" setting. The nice, original Pantoja compositions make this one listenable. The highlight is Arborway, which became one of Chet's standards in the late eighties. [1988] - Archie Shepp Chet Baker Quintet - In Memory Of First And Last Meeting In Frankfurt And Paris [320cbr]

http://suprfile.com/src/1/7w4hhho/folder.jpg

Chet seems out of place in this odd pairing with the bluesy sax man, Shepp. The tenor sax great dominates these recordings, while Baker does have much to offer, his solos are short and tentative. Later tracks get better. On How Deep is The Ocean, Chet blows a reserved, but sweet solo. He contributes some lively phrases to Old Devil Moon.

Two months after these concerts, Chet Baker was scheduled to perform with Archie Shepp on May 12th, 1988 in Laren. He never showed up for that concert, and was found dead hours later in Amsterdam.

http://suprfile.com/src/1/7w4kku4/folder.jpg

This is actually a really good performance, but the sloppy recording makes it difficult to listen to sometimes. It's worth putting up with the flaws, though, for some great moments. Baker and Nicola Stilo (on flute) light up the stage with the opener, Funk in Deep Freeze. A Fool to Want You begins with a false start, but saved by Chet's sad vocals and Stilo's pretty flute. On Portrait in Black and White, Chet sounds like he's playing off stage somewhere! Although we don't get to hear his trumpet, he comes in on piano and sounds nice. Arborway is an incomplete version, and has some jarring edits in the middle of the tune.

A day after he finished The Heart of the Ballad, Chet teams again with Pieranunzi and his trio. This was to be Chet's last studio recording, and it is a nice way to remember Chet. When he was in good shape, and he surrounded himself with excellent sidemen (both the case here), he was as capable of creating magic. A good example of this is the title cut. Chet's never really played it much after his famous 1957 vocal and instrumental recording of the tune. He revives it one last time and gives one of the best vocal performances of his last years.

Liner Note Authors: Scott Yanow; Kurt Geise. Recording information: Funkhaus, Hanover, Germany (04/28/1988). This 1988 release sees Chet Baker on stage in Funkhaus Hannover, West Germany. This concert is the last authorized recording by the legendary trumpeter and singer. In fact, Baker was found on the pavement outside an Amsterdam hotel, dead under mysterious circumstances, only two weeks after this concert was recorded. Surprisingly, however, Baker's trumpet playing is full of life and energy on this release. It is said that he was inspired by the setting. Accompanied by a full orchestra, big band, and old friends, Herb Geller (alto sax) and Walter Norris (piano), Baker rises to the occasion, performing with what might be termed, "grace and sophistication" on all seven tracks. Playing some of the most heartfelt solos of his career, Baker seems to hauntingly eulogize his own imminent passing. And his tender vocal musings on "My Funny Valentine" (a lyric which Baker undeniably owns) and "I Fall in Love Too Easily" make THE LAST GREAT CONCERT a respectable, indeed, an endearing farewell to a jazz icon.
